* Our Daily Bread *

Listenin to the crunch crunch of tires on gravel
Hearing pigs rooting at the confines of their gates
Sittin in the seat of an 85 Chevy silverado
Pajamad, thoroughly rested and awaiting
Another day on the time clock earning an existence

She sleeps bundled up in blankets eskimolike
Left her shivering and sore like the rest
Father delusional suffering seizures
Seated in chairs not sat for decades
Cousin a thief stealing gasoline from grampa
Brother an addict stealing comfort from cease of sickness

Stomped my brothers face into unconsciousness
After 800 dollar Vizio flatscreen smashed by his hand
Broken noses and knuckles
Father twitching with seizures on the couch
Girls screaming, vodka spilling, voices raised

Sun begins to rise, beckoning bales of hay for cattle
Old trucks fired for daily chores
Medications choked down wrinkled throats
Days coughed up onto our tired chests
Like phlegm from the cheapest tobacco
Shits from the cheapest alcohol

We spin on this rock awaiting easement
Encased in our situations troubles
When all along unknowing of our meaninglessness
Specks on the back of Afrikaan elephants
Ticks in the side of time
Sucking fucking and shitting cursing
Being alive
